On the Path to 100 Years
Beta Epsilon, the distinguished Brotherhood of Engineers, is the first college-based fraternity at the University of the Philippines. Founded on August 23, 1929, by nine pioneering scholars, athletes, and student leaders, Beta Epsilon has been a second home to the elite minds of the U.P. College of Engineering. Exclusively at UP Diliman, we affectionately call our fraternity “The Purple Tower,” symbolizing belonging and home, now embodied on our website.
Our Journey at a Glance
95TH FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY
For 95 years, we have proudly stood as a beacon of excellence and service within the UP College of Engineering. What began as a shared vision between Hon. Alejandro S. Melchor and a group of student athletes to create an engineering honor society gained momentum throughout the college. On August 23, 1929, these aspirations culminated in our founding, officially recognized by the UP Administration.
SERVICE EXCELLENCE
The vision of our nine founders and Hon. Alejandro S. Melchor has made numerous contributions to the University. From nurturing top engineering students and alumni to creating the Beta Way, and organizing events like Blockbooster, the UP Lantern Parade Fireworks, MSK, and Maskipaps: The Crossover, we remain dedicated to fostering camaraderie and serving both the country and the College of Engineering.
AWARDS
We are one of only three organizations and the sole fraternity to receive the prestigious Wenceslao Q. Vinzons Award for outstanding service to the University of the Philippines, honored for the visionary creation of the Beta Way. We are also the first and only fraternity to have been awarded the BEST FRATERNITY award in 2004.

Beta Epsilon offers a unique platform for young engineers to jumpstart their careers. Through alumni mentorship and a supportive environment, young Betans seamlessly transition into the professional world. MASKIPAPS: THE CROSSOVER
Maskipaps: The Crossover, the ultimate afterparty of the UP Lantern Parade, stands as UP Diliman’s largest student-organized music festival.
BLOCKBOOSTER
First organized in 1974, Blockbooster stands as one of our fraternity’s proudest annual events. Conceived during the turbulent times of Martial Law, Blockbooster was envisioned as a peaceful platform to unite freshman blocks through friendly competition, showcasing our resilience and commitment to camaraderie.

Being a Betan means embodying true gentlemanly principles. We pride ourselves on respectful conduct and presentation, upholding core values ingrained in every member. Beta Epsilon stands on a strong foundation of welcoming Brotherhood, where members discover their potential. The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly disrupted our plans and goals, presenting a challenging period where many have been forced to leave their jobs. For students, this transition has been particularly tough as education shifted to online learning. Despite these hurdles, our commitment to supporting and adapting to these new circumstances remains steadfast.
