MSK (Maskipaps)

MSK, also known as “Maskipaps,” is the anything-goes variety show that lights up Engineering Week. The name “Maskipaps” is a playful mashup of the phrase “Maski-papaano,” meaning “anything goes.” What began as a mix of fashion shows and freestyle performances in 1978 during the term of MEB Robbie Fabian BE ’75, has since evolved into a dynamic performance art competition that tackles important social issues. Originally featuring only College of Engineering organizations, MSK’s popularity has expanded its reach, attracting participants from across the university.

By the 1980s, MSK had become the second most-awaited annual event at UP, just behind the Lantern Parade. Held within the walls of Melchor Hall, MSK continues to be a highlight of Engineering Week, bringing together creativity, expression, and campus unity in one unforgettable show. This event perfectly captures the spirit of the Beta Epsilon fraternity, promoting national pride and university excellence by spotlighting local talent and important causes. Maskipaps 2019 even caught the eye of People’s Television Network’s SDG Tambayan, highlighting the event’s commitment to responsible partying and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals. In light of collective effort of different sectors of the country’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Maskipaps 2019 earnings also helped in funding Maskipaps: Tulong sa PGH, a project that provided 10,000 high quality isolation coveralls for the medical frontliners in the Philippine General Hospital (PGH). This is another testament of how the UP Beta Epsilon Fraternity continues to uphold its ideals of giving back to our country through means of social service. As we celebrate 92 years of Beta Epsilon, let us recognize the chain that links all the brothers together — the chain connecting the brightest scholars and leaders; different individuals from different walks of life coming together and living the fraternity’s ideals of love, trust, and sacrifice towards their fellow brothers and those around them.
