In 2010, the College of Engineering marked its 100th year, celebrating with various activities organized by UPAE, culminating in the recognition of the one hundred Outstanding Alumni Engineers — 24 of whom are proud Betans.
ALEJANDRO S. MELCHOR BE’29
Alejandro Melchor served as Secretary of National Defense in 1935, a cabinet member under President Quezon during the war, military advisor from 1939 to 1945, a colonel in the Philippine Army, and an educator and administrator at UP and the Philippine Military Academy.
JESUS PERLAS BE’29
Jesus C. Perlas, Sr., an Engineering scholar at UP, rose to Assistant General Manager of the Metropolitan Water District and contributed significantly as an educator and military consultant in Sanitary Engineering.
